At least Ford has figured out how to keep the V8 Mustang alive for the coming years... Dodge could've done the same, but I don't think the European overlords at Stellantis like V8s. I had a feeling the merger would taint the brand.

@Maus You can look up crash testing for the Mirai and it never exploded. Granted it is a bit different than what hydrogen tech they want to have, it shows it's not as dangerous as thought

@Brian Grimal I’m just assuming they will give the option to cut the sound, but I will be super disappointed watching kids swap the engine with chicken noises or memes. When they said it was gonna be a “muscle ev” I assumed maybe a power band option that makes it feel like a traditional transmission, not cat noises lol

As an owner of multiple Stellantis/FCA products, I will put this in the nicest way possible…if the top tier Daytona EV doesn’t make a Tesla Model S Plaid & Roadster seem slow in comparison, best of luck selling these unless they are literally a fraction of their price.

    • Alex NutCasio
      Alex NutCasio 24 days ago

@Danny Kanchanarin Dodge can do it, but at what price? It’s not hard to put in two or three electric motors and get an 8 second qtr mile car. Dodge can easily do that. But, and this is the kicker, at what cost? A $100k plus Charger/Challenger is going to be a tough sell. A $50-70 k, not so tough.

    • TrueDesire존
      TrueDesire존 24 days ago

@Alex NutCasio insurance alone is €5000 a year on me being 36 living in a small city. going fast in a straight line is just what the Plaid offers, standard Model S is quick enough for 99,999% of the times.

I'm not at all excited by EVs in general but I gotta say, if I were to ever even consider buying one, it would ONLY be this one. I love the homage to the old school Chargers while still being very up to date. It just looks pure badass.

      Mustangs are sports cars

    • Waldo Castro
      Waldo Castro Month ago

@MrSoiSauce lol your idea of the mustang bothers me, has the mustang ever been a drag car really? You don't ever see some slapping a blower motor on it right? Pretty sure the mustang has been more of a track car than anything. About the only thing dodge has done to keep a muscle car alive is the Challenger, cause if your worried about "boxy" I mean is charger really a muscle car? Cause last time I checked the charger was a 2 door lol so mustang has evolved, how boxy can you get with today's world before you look like concept car.

    • msb11286
      msb11286 Month ago

@MrSoiSauce I get that. But I think that most Hellcat owners don’t want that experience. Have both options. Let me go electric if I want, or let me stay with the ICE.

    • MrSoiSauce
      MrSoiSauce Month ago

@msb11286 I know the EV can’t replicate some experiences u get out of an ICE car, which is why it still has appeal, but, and I say this as a fan of IC engines myself, I think what dodge is doing gives us a new experience. What dodge has gone and done is create an electric car that gives the EV soul and character. It’s still an EV tho, so it takes some of the pros from that powertrain to create a new experience. It’s not trying to replicate something that’s already been done. It’s trying to create something that’s never been done. It’s an experience u probably won’t get in any other car

    • MrSoiSauce
      MrSoiSauce Month ago

Then you’re clearly forgetting the truth. The modern Ford Mustang is just a sports car with a pushrod V8. The design isn’t boxy anymore. The car corners well. The car drives smoother. The car is more set up for the track than the drag strip. Basically all the hallmarks of a Porsche 911 as opposed to a muscle car. Ford isn’t saving the muscle car. They let it die when they left us with the 6th generation Mustang. Dodge was the only manufacturer that kept the actual spirit of the muscle car alive. Today, they’ve shown that they’re willing and capable of doing it again, even in the electric age

Not a big fan of the fake exhaust sound but it is a good safety feature that let's anyone around know there's a vehicle nearby unlike some evs that go unnoticed. Front and rear are fantastic. The charger heritage is very apparent in the styling. I get the feeling that if you were to cut about 6-12 inches out of the design behind the B pillar, it would look much better. However, overall, it does look very nice.

Also I would love for the car to have mercedes type range of over 600 miles since they are working so much on being aerodynamic.

That would mean a car with a 0-60 time significantly less than 1.9 seconds. How fast is too fast? I'd be satisfied with something relatively sporty, but not necessarily hypercar fast (around low 3s 0-60 or less). Ultimately most people will never take it to a track or race it anyway. I think they will appeal to a lot of people based on styling alone. Tesla looks so generic and soulless in comparison.

Narrow that window down some like on a challenger, and you’ve nailed it. Had it came out looking like the online “ renders “ with the exception of the hood for “ drag efficiency “ I think it would be a bigger hit. Just my opinion though..

As a long time charger fan (first car was a 66 charger and now I own a hellcat charger), I'm ecstatic that they chose the Charger nameplate for this car. Charger fans have been taking a back seat to the challenger ever since the modern challenger was released, only receiving hand me downs for the last few years. Finally a 2 door charger is back and I'm looking forward to it.

    Dear Dodge,
Please make a real coupe version of this, I'd much rather have a long trunk like the current Challenger than more room for the rear seats!
For those people who regularly carry passengers in the back, let them go buy a 4-door car!

Honestly, I love it. I hope there is an option to turn the sound off, but otherwise this is a grand slam homerun for me. Please please continue making this type of car. There's a reason the challenger sold so well despite it being largely unchanged for 15 years. Its because the muscle car style touches on something that is timeless. It doesnt have to be the fastest car on the planet either. About 600 hp paired with the torque of an EV would be an amazing driving experience. On top of that, offer it in plum crazy purple and I'll be first in line when orders start. What I love most is how Dodge managed to find a way to make the characteristic boxy front end have a function on a car that doesn't have an engine under the hood. It appeals to my sense of functionality while preserving a styling cue I really like.

We need a burnout mode also get them tires hot and sticky. Also I will admit I kind of like it. I just still think they should continue making hemi and chargers. Also this thing better be faster than the plaid and it needs to be able to keep picking up speed fast after 60 mph. If this beats a mustang gt500 and the plaid in all aspects while getting ok range I'll be a little more ok with this trash.

    • Ken Trombatore
      Ken Trombatore Month ago

It's all wheel drive. But if there is a drift mode, they should be able to disable the front motors for big smokey burnouts!
I think AWD burnout mode should include a retractable tailhook like a fighter jet and dragstrips should install restraining hooks. How bad ass would that be?

That badge is old school; I remember seeing them on 60s era Dodge Chargers (my Dad had a number of them when I was growing up). I'm not at all excited by EVs in general but I gotta say, if I were to ever even consider buying one, it would ONLY be this one. I love the homage to the old school Chargers while still being very up to date. It just looks pure badass.

I will say 4 things. 1. Best looking ev and good looking all round 2. If you are calling back to arguably one of the greatest muscle cars of all time, you got to add the double indents on the doors like the 69'. Not sure how this affects aero, but i dont really care. They are a staple of the car and look badass 3. I love the idea of noise, but thats wayy to high pitched. Needs to be a deep rumble not sounds like a kitten fighting with a vacuum. If they can make a car in a video game sound realistic, dodge better be able to with a much larger engineering team and budget than a gaming studio 4. This needs to hold up to the performance and absolutely decimate the current ev leaders

    • MrSoiSauce
      MrSoiSauce 12 days ago

I have a response for ur 3rd and 4th points:
      1. The sound of the car is the natural sound. What you are hearing is the electric motor amplified through the “Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust” at the back. What it is is essentially an acoustic chamber in conjunction with an amplifier
      2. Performance doesn’t matter anymore I’m EVs where the performance numbers for every EV are the same generic 1.9 second 0-60 time and the same 250+ mph. That’s why Dodge is capitalizing on improving the experience of driving an EV. They know they can’t make an EV that can outperform any other performance EV, so they instead wanted to make one that was much more fun to drive than any other performance EV. What matters more to me is the price and the range. If it’s expensive like most other performance EVs, then I’m turned off from this car altogether. But if it’s the first performance EV to be affordable, then they can take my wallet
