I really hope he doesn’t suffer any neurological issues or any brain injuries later in life, because those punches to his head and face were relentless. It broke my heart seeing him get beat so viciously. Obviously, I know that boxing is a dangerous and violent sport and profession, but it still sucks to see Caleb get hurt so badly.
These are the type of fights that change fighters, Plants got heart but dam he took some solid hits, respect!

Damn! That was the best PPV I've purchased in years! Only disappointments was the Colbert-Valenzuela decision and Kenny Bayless refusing to warn Plant of all the holding he was doing. Overall it was an awesome card

you clearly didnt watch the fight. no disrespect but this is why people dont take boxing casuals seriously. you guys make assessment on 10 second clips instead of watching all 12 rounds. Plant won the first 2 rounds, 3 a toss up but by round 4 the whole fight changed and once Benavidez landed significant shots Plant was on the run and was holding excessive. Gaining more fans is a reach because he definitely didnt gain any with how he ran for 12 rounds, low blow Benavidez and got hit for 220 punches while only landed 80 at best with no snap. Watch the fight. You can believe what you want but you cant say you watched the fight in full if you failed the mention Plants corner was going to throw in the towel in the 10, 11 and 12 round. Plant almost got floored in the 12th. with Bayless letting Plant get away with holding, it saved Plant from getting knocked out. Plant was rocked in the fight from round 6 to 12 and it wasnt even close. how can you call that a fight when Benavidez landed 220 punches to Caleb's 80-90? none of then hurt Benavidez and Benavidez walked through Plant and beat him down.

Dude, everyone knows David is a slow starter. He never “rallied” back. Ever heard of rope a dope? Plant never had a chance. Plant was falling apart by the 6th round.

David Benavidez is one of the most impressive fighters in boxing or MMA, that I've ever seen. And I've watched all the legends, pioneers and current fighters.
Bro's got video game hand speed, eats everything like peanuts and just walks his opponents down while keeping one of the more impressive work rates. Plus he is 168 with 2m wingspan. Crazy. And he has some major power in those hands, only 26 years old. One of the better fighters of the current boxing crop. I believe he beats Canelo and I've actually been saying this for some time now.

Valenzuela was definitely robbed. Valenzuela won. There was no doubt about that. We all saw that fight. Boxing corruption and fixed scores from judges make the sport/profession extremely frustrating. They rob boxers out of opportunities and legacy, and it shouldn’t be tolerated.

@Hollyfreeholly !!! Benavidez had an onslaught of power shots uppercuts and looping short shots, anytime Plant was stunned and staggered Bayless would come in and break the action. Not only that gave Plant more time to recover, it created more distance that plant needed to get Benavidez off him. Plant did not want benavidez to work inside or in the pocket. In the pocket is where Plant initiated the holding. The clinch is understandable and apart of boxing when you're close range and want to stop a guy from working. However in the pocket Plant made sure he held to stop Benavidez getting to close range. the ref continuously stopped momentum from Benavidez and interrupted alot of the action. Plant was helpless and anytime he was going to fall Kenny Bayless got in the way. Kenny Bayless actually would push Benavidez further away than he did with Plant and it looked more like a father refereeing his sons fight, the son being Plant.
Great fight from both men. Glad to see they mutually squashed the bad blood between them in the end

Caleb started off strong during the beginning rounds, but from rounds 8-12, it was just punch after punch, after punch from David. I gotta give it to Caleb though - he was still standing at the end, tried his best, and had heart. I would have been knocked out a long time ago if I were in Caleb’s shoes, because David’s punches were relentless! 😂 I was definitely rooting for Caleb, and I wanted him to win, but sometimes things don’t always go as planned. I hope Caleb is able to bounce back, strengthen his deficiencies that occurred in this fight, not become too discouraged, and move forward. I know he’ll overcome this and come back better than ever!

Plant started to get caught while going in for the clinch as the fight went on, which made that whole clinch strategy a lot less effective. That, in combination with Benavidez turning up the heat, made the fight heavily one sided. Plant came into this fight with a cheesy strategy that only worked in the early rounds. However I love both these guys and hope to see a Canelo/Benavidez matchup in the future. There's no denying Plants toughness and the fact that he is not scared to fight the best, but that stupid clinch strategy only works for so long. Benavidez is just too powerful and deadly.

Plant really just doesn’t have that much to his boxing. Very little creativity and not much power. Defense isn’t even as good as it’s said to be. He’s solid for sure but not an upper tier champion level boxer.
This was very similar to Pacquiao vs Clottey. Pacquiao was a destructive monster and he couldn’t get Joshua Clottey out of there or even drop him because Clottey held all night and clinched and only came to survive 🤷♂️ same thing here with Plant. You can’t get a guy out of there if he’s not willing to engage and fight.
Bayless helped his tank tremendously. Respect to plant, but Vegas fixed that. Bayless got paid off for sure. Didn't want David to get that k.o. A lot of people lost money. It's so obvious. Fight was a k.o for sure. A 1000 holds. Stopping the clock for plant to recover. I've never seen anything like it. One of the most disgraceful referee jobs I've ever seen. All I hear is cricket's from these canelo casuals. Rooting for plant to win to say that canelo can beat david. Canelo will retire soon. There's no way he fights him. I think after this and the Canelo fight we can see Caleb is a 6 round fighter against top opposition. Up until then he looked sharp. Not sure if it’s a gas tank issue or if he just crumbles after getting hit in the 6-7th round but it’s been proven now. Take nothing from Benavidez tho, dude came to kill
Great card, strange headline fight. Bizarre tactics from David and Caleb. David barely threw a meaningful combination for 6 rounds, and then Planet went into survival mode when the fight seemed to be fairly even after 6/7 rounds. The referee was an absolute disgrace.

Bayless was always a disgrace whenever there was some body the mob wanted to protect. Bayless has stopped fights for less but he let Plant keep on fighting when he clearly had nothing in the tank for 6 rounds.

Great fight card, bought it and it was worth every cent to me as Benavidez is my favorite boxer by a mile. I do have have to say that Benavidez was getting absolutely screwed the entire fight by the Bayless the ref. It might have been the worst officiated fight I have ever watched. Seriously...the worst I have ever seen for just absolutely bizarre stoppages and the total refusal for Bayless to stop Plant from holding the entire freaking fight. Basically Plant ran away from David the entire fight and when David cut him off he would throw a few punches at David and grab onto him and hold. OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. If not for Benavidez finally just breaking Plant's grip on himself as Bayless just stood right next to them the fight would have been ruined by Plant in my opinion. A top fighter does not just run and hold the hold fight like Plant did. It was pretty unbelievable watching it and you know it's bad when even the announcers (who are not sup to speak negatively about the ref) are voicing their complete shock and confusion about what the hell the ref is doing in a fight.

Caleb still showed why he was still a champion his heart and aura showed & said it all I love the performance plant put on I had em winning the early rounds. Honestly I’ve seen Benavidez slaughtering in the late rounds he showed he can bang in the 11th & 12th & he made adjustments. Caleb has to work on that endurance/stamina he got drained from just a little bit of Benavidez’s pressure because he wasn’t able to let off any flurries & combinations he worked on in the gym to beat plant bc of calebs lateral movement but he still found a way to slow Caleb down to land good enough bombs to win. Although I don’t think this is Benavidez toughest fight yet, I can still see plant beating Benavidez if he did what he did in the 1-5rounds for 12 rounds straight he just needs that consistency. it’s just those late rounds man but other than that Caleb has heart, he’s also a champ & he will be champ once more one day.
Plant took a beating last night that might ruin him for good. His corner should have thrown in the towel after the 9th or 10th round at MOST. Plant's face was totally destroyed, and you know his brain and body just took a pounding it might not recover from. And while I liked Plant prior to this fight, the run away and hold strategy that he tried to employ the entire fight was not a strategy that a top 3 fighter uses. It just isn't, and if the ref Bayless had even officiated the fight remotely even Plant would have been knocked out. There were several times Bayless stopped the fight when Plant was in serious trouble, AND there were two occasions where the only reason that Plant didn't hit the canvas was because he held onto David for dear life.

This was a good fight! Ironically I predicted that if it goes to the scorecard I favor Plant but Benavidez all day inside the distance...and it went 12, Benavidez wins by UD. 😂 I love Benavidez but gotta respect Sweet Hands!

Actually surprised Plant soldiered it out to the end, felt like Benavidez was out there throwing bombs since the 7th round (props to Kenny Bayless i guess 😅)..still one hell of a fight

Great fight. I knew Plant was going to jump on to an early lead and did. He clearly won the first 5 rounds or 4 out of the 5. Plants gas tank was my concern and I knew Benavidez wouldn’t stop coming forward and stalking in which he did. He had trouble with Plants rage, speed, and slickness early but as soon as Plant started to fade starting in the 6th or 7th Benavidez capitalized and just wore Plant down completely taking over the fight. 115-113 for David or 116-112 for David good win for him. He definitely deserves Canelo next.
I’m a Plant fan and this a heartbreaking loss only way I saw him winning is if he didn’t fade too early but he faded early and it’s also due to Benavidez pressure. But credit to David great win. And Plant will be back I still think he beats most at 168. And their the cream of the top! Morrell Jr, Plant, David, and Canelo are the best at 168!

Enough people are giving Plant credit. Ofcourse he has heart. All these guys who put their well being on the line for our entertainment have heart. He had my respect before the fight he certainly has it after.
That being said, it went how i thought it would go if he didn’t get Benavidez respect early and damage him in order to slow him down later. As predicted, he moved around way too much to avoid shots and threw frivolous punches to keep David off him. All this did was slow Plant’s legs and reaction time down and he had nearly no steam left on his shots by the midpoint. Coincidentally this is when David decided to pick up the pace and Plant had no answer for that. Really hope tonight’s fights changes the culture on fighters trying to imitate Floyd. Almost every fighter tonight using a Philly shell defense got touched up. If they’re gonna imitate Floyd, they better imitate his infighting in the pocket, his pull counters and doing roadwork at 2am after having bottle service where he did not drink. This style isn’t for everyone. Even James Toney who was a master at it slurring today. Fundamentals is king.
Kenny Bayless INTERRUPTED Benavidez's flow several times and stole stoppages to give Plant breathing room and time to recover. It it weren't for the atrocious referee it would have ended in stoppage. I was surprised Plant could take all the hard shots, and barrage of ONE ARM punches (because Plant was hugging Benavidez like his girlfriend while grappling his other arm). Good fight but the referee needs to retire.

Plant showed a crazy chin but he needed to get Benavidez to respect his power which he didn’t and that’s why he got walked down the entire fight, even so it was a great fight

Absolutely great fight, the skill and class that plant showed in the first 6 rounds was brilliant. If he could have done that for 12 rounds.. great performance by both fighters, he gave Benavidez problems.

Caleb Plant was lucky he requested a bigger ring on the contract because I guarentee you if that ring was a bit smaller he wouldve got caught with some nasty combinations on the ropes
